Bras need to be looked after to prevent them from becoming faded and misshapen. Although they're not designed to last forever, you should be able to get plently of wear our of yours bras before it's time to consider replacing them. The best way to take care of your bras is to ensure you wash and store them properly.

Here's a more in-depth look at people's most common questions concering bra care.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I WASH MY BRA?

A common misconception is that you must wash your bras after every wear but doing this may cause more than harm than good.

It's recommended that your bras be washed once you've worn them at least twice. However, there are a couple of factors which may alter this. Temperatures and what you've done that day will impact how much you have sweated. Wearing a bra in a air conditioned environment for a couple of hours will feel different to running errands in the heat. This extra sweat can lead to more oils trapped around the bra's band, leading to discolouration.

Although it is personal preference, washing you bras after 2-3 wears is a good rule.

CAN I WEAR THE SAME BRA FOR A WEEK?

You've probably got your favourite bra which is your go-to, but opting to wear this bra every day can result in a shorter lifespan for it.

No matter how much you love your bra, it's best to wear a few on rotation. Wearing the same bra every day for a full week can irritate your skin beacuse of a build-up of sweat (even if you take it off several hours at a time). You also won't be able to wash your bra as often as recommended, meaning stains may be more difficult to remove and outdoors are more likely to linger.

HOW DO I KEEP MY BRA CLEAN?

The best way to keep your bra clean is to wash it regularly and not wear it excessively. Whether it's a push-up, t-shirt bra or traingle bra, they can all be kept clean in the same way.

Here are some tips on how we recommend washing your bra:

  1. Hand wash your bra where possible, espically if that is the only cleaning instruction on the label.
  2. If your usin a washing machine, make sure it's on a gentle cycle and use a wash bag.
  3. Pick a mild detergent that doesn't contain bleach or alcohol
  4. Don't use a tumble dryer
  5. Avoid placing your bra over the radiator
  6. Reshape the cups, then hang your bras to air dry or lay flat on a towel

SHOULD I WASH MY NEW BRA BEFORE WEARING IT?

As soon as you buy a bra, you may be tempted to wear it immediately. We know the confidence boost a new bra can give, so we fully understand why you can't wait to put it on. Just like any other item of clothing, it can be a good idea to wash your new bras before wearing them. Although it's unnescessary, and you've probably been fine wearing new bras without washing them before, it is a precautionary measure.

Washing a new bra will give you complete peace of mind that it's clean and ready to be worn under your outfit for the day.

WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO STORE MY BRAS?

Many women are guilty of bundling their bras into their lingerie drawer and grabbing one out when needed. However, there is an art to storing your bras and keeping them in a healthy condition for longer. One of the best ways to store your bras is in a fabric covered storage box that slides into your drawers. The extra storage allows you to stand your bras up and fit each one into another via the cups, Bras have more chance to breathe and are more likely to retain their shape when they're not folded in on themselves.

If you want to go one step further, why not colour coordinate your bras for the extra organisation? You'll feel satisfied when you see your bras neatly lined up in colour groups. For ultimate freshsers whilst not being worn, place your bras in the drawer alongside an organza bag filled with your favourite scent. You can also use tumble dryer sheets to help keep the bras smelling fresh.

SHOULD I WEAR A BRA TO BED?

Despite what many people say about sleeping in a bra, there is no medical evidence to suggest that it's either good or bad for your body. Wearing a bra to bed can help to minimise breast movement as you toss and turn during the night. However  depending on your bust size, this may not be something that massively affects your sleep.

Most women choose not to wear a bra whilst sleeping, providing a sense of freedom and comfort. However, if you decided to sleep in a bra, you'll have to think about how long you've been wearing it whether or not you've sweated, as this may impact how often you wash it.

Your sleep bra is recommended to be non-wired, as the rigid wires could dig in or cause discomfort during overnight wear.

 HOW LONG DO BRAS LAST?

We all know what's its like when you don't want to get ride of your favourite item of clothing. Mnay women keepbras longer than the recommend lifespan. Although nothing is wrong with this, you will 100% notice the difference when you put a bra bra on again.

Can you remeber the last time you went bra shopping? Its recommended that you replace your bras every 6-9 months, though many are guilty of going much longer than this.  The mores you have in your collection, the less you'll wear them, meaning you can make them last longer.

Here are a few telltale signs that it may to be time buy a new bra:

  1. The band is too loose across the back despite being on the tighest hook
  2. The cups are now too big from being misshapen
